Ranger Concept 05 by DoubleZeroFX Ranger Concept 05 by DoubleZeroFX
More concept art for RANGERS. This time I've arrived on a solid dress uniform concept (though it's probably not finalized by any means), and I'm playing around with colors. It's actually the fifth dress uniform concept I've come up with, but it's the first one that has a very genuine feel to it. It's definitely futuristic, but it's a cohesive design. I wanted the dress uniform to be almost completely devoid of color except for little bits here and there... one of those things that you're likely to miss unless you see it up close.

So lot's of inspiration came into play here. If you're a Gundam fan, you'll probably spot the EFSF/Titan uniform in there. There's also the asymmetrical chest overlap from Star Trek's red uniforms, and there's even some Legacy Effects' ODST dress uniform in there as well.

I am requesting critiques on this one. I was in ROTC for three years, so I've worn dress uniforms before and had to study them for part of that time. I also get a lot of exposure to US Army dress uniforms through my professional job. I feel I have a solid grounding in dress uniform design, but as an emotionally attached artist, I feel like I may have overlooked a good idea or two. So if you think you can improve the concept, I'm all ears.

I used the following link as reference when making a generic style sheet (which I drew over for the concept art):

Military fashion as a trend is nothing new. It’s something that pops up every few years. It was even the content of a William Gibson novel. There’s an old rule somewhere that if you want to rebuild something then you slap support (armor) on it and call it a day. What you’ve done here, actually, is not go by any rulebook. You didn’t add, you created. The uniform that you’ve designed here functions. You took the Saban content and made it function in reality. It’s fit for combat without having to look like a flag. It moves, it breathes and it is utilitarian. The attention of detail is very telling when it comes to the pieces. My only suggestion would be to tuck the legs into the boots and give those boots a little accent.
